TheDigitalBits reports an August 21 DVD release date for Florian Henckel von Donnersmark's Oscar-winning The Lives of Others, one of the best movies of last year and one of the best spy movies of all time. The long-awaited disc will feature an audio commentary and interview with the director and a making-of featurette. DVDActive has the cover art here. Meanwhile, the excellent soundtrack by Gabriel Yared and Stephane Moucha has finally gotten a U.S. release as well, thanks to Varese Sarabande. It omits the classical pieces and has fewer score tracks than the import version, but I'm not sure if that means less music or just that some have been combined.
