Artwork For New Edition Of Licence To Thrill

Amazon has posted cool new artwork for the forthcoming revised edition of one of my favorite academic books on James Bond, James Chapman's Licence To Thrill: A Cultural History of the James Bond Films. Unlike certain other scholars who take on the subject of 007 and tend to be dry, Chapman is very readable and always argues a good case, whether I agree with him or not. He also wrote my very favorite reference work on spy TV, Saints and Avengers: British Adventure Series of the 1960s.

  1. It seems like of bookshelves are very similar...I've enjoyed Chapman.

Another good pairing in a similar vein (if you don't have them), both by Robert Sellers are Battle For Bond - I couldn't put it down - and Cult TV: The Golden Age Of ITC which is similar to Saints And Avengers but veers off to look at the less high profile stuff too.

  2. Yes, our bookshelves must be very similar indeed! (Not too surprising, really.) I've got those Sellers books as well. Cult TV is a great resource (although I prefer Saints & Avengers' more in-depth analysis), but I haven't yet had a chance to really delve into Battle For Bond. I'm looking forward to it... eventually.
