Arabesque Coming To DVD In USA!

Probably the most sought-after mainstream Sixties spy movie still not on Region 1 DVD finally will be this fall, thanks to Universal--and for some reason they seem intent on keeping it a secret. The Amazon listing for The Gregory Peck Collection reveals only that such a collection exists, and that it's coming out November 4 at a list price of $59.99, and the studio still hasn't issued a press release for it. But ClassicFlix somehow dug up more--including cover art and titles. Among them? You guessed it, Arabesque! Sadly, as of now it looks like this terrific title won't be available on its own, so we get that lame, tame collection artwork instead of the truly awesome Robert McGinnis poster art. Oh well, I'll still be happy just to have Stanley Donen's fantastic mod 1966 follow-up to Charade. Try as it might, Arabesque doesn't quite recapture that particular magic, but the story of a college professor caught up in psychedelic intrigue involving a beautiful spy and Middle Eastern politics is still plenty of fun, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing it again.

  1. This is great news! I have no idea (a) why it's taken so long for this film to be released in region 1 and (b) why it's not also being done as a single release -- sheesh...go figure!
