Tradecraft: Safe House And Tourism
I missed this one last month, but stories today about US Magazine editor David Guggenheim's second spec script sale in as many months (very impressive for a notoriously dry spec market) allude to the first one, which Universal and producer Scott Stuber snapped up in a bidding war last moth. That script is Safe House, which, according to The Hollywood Reporter, follows the only surviving agent of an attack on a South American CIA safe house who "must find a way to transport a dangerous prisoner to a second safe house while they are pursued by forces that want them both dead." It's being eyed as a star vehicle for a young Hollywood A-lister. His new script sale is called Puzzle Palace, but sadly it's a cop drama and not an NSA story based on James Bamford's book of the same name.
In other news, Deadline Hollywood reports that Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's The Tourist, starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, is currently shooting in Venice after wrapping up in Paris. Great stars, great director, great locations... this one just keeps getting better and better! (Especially after its unbelievably convoluted history.)
