Tradecraft: Is Aishwarya Rai A Spy Princess?
Wow, this is unusual: a spy-related rumor about Bollywood megastar Aishwarya Rai (considered by many the most beautiful woman in the world) that does not tout her as the next Bond Girl! (And it's from a source more reputable than the tabloids who have ceaselessly touted her for every "next Bond movie" since the late Pierce Brosnan era.) Instead, Deadline is reporting that Rai is circling the role of real-life WWII-era spy Noor Inayat Khan aka Nora Baker, "a Muslim Sufi female agent who was awarded both the George Cross and the Croix de Guerre," in The Spy Princess (great title!). Khan was an operative of Britain's SOE who heroically maintained radio contact with London from occupied France even as her entire spy network was decimated by the Germans. The $15 million British film comes from producers Mike Downy and Sam Taylor, from a script by Judy Morris (Happy Feet.)
