Upcoming Spy DVDs: Superargo Cover Art Revealed
DVD Sleuth reports that the Code Red
Superargo DVD
we heard about
last June finally has a release date—and cover art. The 1968 Eurospy/Superhero "
costumed adventurer" hybrid
Superargo (aka
Superargo and the Faceless Giants aka
Superargo the Giant aka
Superargo vs. the Giant Robots, etc.) stars Giovanni Cianfriglia, Guy Madison and Diana Lorys. Code Red's "Exploitation Cinema" double feature pairs the film with a 1972 John Astin comedy called
Wacky Taxi. The original announcement mentioned that a comedy troup called Cinema Head Cheese would provide an
MST3K-style commentary track, but there's no reference to that on the cover art, so I'm not sure if that's still the case or not. Personally, I don't care one way or the other as long it's possible to watch the movie
without such commentary, which it seems clear it will be. There's no word on the aspect ratio, either. Here's hoping for widescreen! The
Wacky Taxi/
Superargo DVD will retail for $14.98, but it's available to preorder
on Amazon
for just $10.49.

Superargo sounds like the sort of thing I'll just have to buy. Although I'd also only buy it if it's possible to avoid the MST3K-style commentary track.
I remember catching this flick back in the early 70's on New York's Channel 5. A weird mash-up of James Bond, the Phantom, and Mexico's masked wrestler adventures. How cool!
