Tradecraft: Cohen Back On XXX Threequel

When the third XXX film was first announced, it was reported to mark the return of star Vin Diesel and director Rob Cohen, who together originated the extreme sports spy franchise before stepping aside for Ice Cube and Lee Tamahori.  Then Cohen dropped out.  Then someone named Ericsson Core was announced as the director.  Now apparently he's out.  Deadline's Mike Fleming reports that the entire project has shifted studios from Sony to Paramount, and that Rob Cohen is back at the helm.  Furthermore, the whole thing will be shot in 3D, on 3D cameras.  Yawn.  With any luck the whole 3D trend will have faded by "late 2011 or early 2012" when Paramount plan to release this anyway.  I live in fear that the next Bond movie will become 3D.  I really hope this move on the part of one of Bond's most blatant imitators doesn't make 007's producers feel they have to go in that direction too, in order to keep up.  They don't.  That's one kind of gimmick James Bond doesn't need.  (I almost did an April Fools post yesterday about the next Bond being 3D, but I decided it was better not to tempt fate and went instead with something I'd actually like to see come true.)  In more encouraging news, the new XXX film is reported to take place primarily in Europe. Click here to read more about how Xander Cage died and will come back.
