Fantomas,
Hong Kong-Style

David at fellow COBRAS site Permission to Kill has outdone himself with his latest post, an epic, in-depth review and synopsis of the Shaw Brothers' relatively obscure Temptress of a Thousand Faces, a 1969 Hong Kong remake of André Hunebelle’s classic French costumed adventurer movie Fantomas.  And, man, does this movie sound great!  Here's a taste from David's review:
If you are a fan of Diabolik or Fantomas, then the Shaw Bros. Studios Temptress of a Thousand Faces is a film that you must track down.… Believe me, you need this film in your life. This film is a riot of sixties style light, colour, action and movement.

While Temptress is not exactly a spy film, anyone who loves space age underground lairs, villains in rubber masks, outrageous torture devices, beautiful women in mod fashions, car chases, armies of ninjas, will appreciate what is on display here.
I do, David, I do!  I love all those things!  I guess I have to see Temptress of a Thousand Faces.  Waste no time in heading right over to Permission to Kill to read the full review, which also includes some fascinating facts and speculation about alternate versions of this and other Shaw Brothers spy films, including Hong Kong and possibly Malay remakes of the Eurospy classic Passport to Hell. And while you're there, be sure to poke around, because David has completely revamped his site with a great new look.
