DVD Active reports that Steven Soderbergh's 2011 action spy movie
Haywire, starring Gina Carano with able support from Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas and Bill Paxton (among others), will hit
DVD and
Blu-ray from Lionsgate Home Entertainment on May 1. Disappointingly, the only bonus features announced are two featurettes, "Gina Carano: From MMA to
Haywire” and “The Men of
Haywire." (Oh, and the Blu-ray also includes a digital copy. Yay.) I would have really, really liked to have heard a commentary track from the director. Or seen the Joel McHale-moderated panel he did with Carano, Fassbender and McGregor following the film's premiere at the AFI Film Festival last fall. Oh well. The movie alone is well worth buying, and if you missed this in theaters, I recommend checking it out at home. Not everyone loved it, but
I really did. Read my full review
here. Retail is $29.95 for the
DVD and $39.99 for
the BD, but of course both can be pre-ordered for considerably less
on Amazon.

Finally watched 'Haywire' on DVD. Very much enjoyed it. Being an MMA instructor, it was especially fun to play spot-the-tecnique.
Something I'm surprised no one mentioned: The fight on the beach near the end looked very clearly modeled on the opening fight scene from 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service.' Considering Soderbergh said he was going for a Bond sort of vibe, this can't be coincidence.
Hm, good point about OHMSS! Glad to hear you enjoyed the movie.
